NFL Week 1

Panthers2013-14 Season Week 1

Meh. Sadly all the team fanboys are all still broke from 2008 so there are no good bets to take, nothing but safe sane money in Vegas. There appears to be one scheduled ass whoopin by Indy over Oakland.

My computer is predicting one we’ll be watching, Pittsburgh over Tennessee by 8 points. Hope I’m wrong there.

My take: Continue reading

It’s Time For Football!!

TitansSpring’s Week1 Picks

Well it’s that time of year again. Yeah! Seems like it’s been a very short summer. Probably because around here, it’s either been raining or too cold to get into the lake, it seems like we barely got summer at all. Even today we had weather from “The Day After”. I’m not sure how it can be Sept. 4th, with a high of 83, lo of 59, yet it’s 38 in our neighboring town of Milford. I think the Weather Bug flew into a refrigerated or something.

But that doesn’t have much to do with Football season does it?! I’ve never been good at picking the first games of the season. My picks for Week1 are based on nothing but my gut instinct and how I perceive finished last year. So if you’re using my picks for your football pool (as some have told me they do), I’ve warned you first.  😉 Continue reading

How the Draft Deals with NSA Leaks or That’s TMI

babydragonYou are President Jones. You are here in the Jungle Room (codename for the Oval Office, thanks again President Bill) with the Wizard of Oz (codename for your new Director of National Intelligence) who you have called in to speak with you. You are here because you have been redrafted by the people for another term. This is why you have dedicated this term to getting even with them.

As you watched Brick House (codename for your secretary) pour you and Oz a couple of drinks, you realize that there are only ever two reasons you call someone to speak with you: either to yell at them or to solve a problem caused by someone you want to yell at. This meeting is one of the former. Continue reading

Fontana California – March 24, 2013  Sprint Cup Auto Club 400

Anyone who thought the Gen6 cars were boring, didn’t watch the Nascar race at Fontana. The entire day was entertaining, with battles up front and back in the pack. But nothing like the final 10 laps.

After a late race caution, the last restart began with 11 laps to go. Kyle Busch was leading, Joey was 2nd followed by Tony, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth was 10th. The green flag flew and Joey didn’t get a very good restart. Tony was up on his bumper right away dropping to the inside line to make the pass. Continue reading

Fontana California – March 24, 2013  Sprint Cup Auto Club 400

First everyone in our house hopes Denny Hamlin is ok. As of this post he has been transported to the local area hospital near Fontana California. Kyle Busch said he heard it was a back injury, but no official news has been released.

Update: 03/25 Nascar Tweeted this today:
@dennyhamlin suffered L1 compression fracture in Sunday’s wreck. More information -> http://bit.ly/11EpfLG   #NASCAR

More information can be found at NIH.gov: Compression Fractures Of The Back.

The race promised to be thrilling from the get go. The battle all week between Denny and Joey built the tension even before the cars hit the track.

Their battle started after the Daytona 500 Twitter Feud, when Denny tweeted a snide comment to Brad Keselowski about Joey’s racing. Which carried over to last week’s race in Bristol and the Twitter Feud Part II (by Nate Ryan USAToday). Continue reading

Is It Time To Evolve Our Opinion Of Danica?

Danica Patrick Enter The 2013 Sprint Cup Series
by Springwolf

If you’ve read any of my Nascar posts, you know I’m pretty critical of Danica. Just check out “Why Nascar Fans Don’t Like Danica” and you’ll find the reasons why.

This year she will be driving the GoDaddy #10 Chevy full time in the Sprint Cup series for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Now as a major Tony Stewart fan, I’ve been conflicted about Danica from the beginning. I want to support him as both a driver and an owner. But it’s been hard where she’s concerned. Even knowing how much Tony likes her and believes in her abilities. (Danica and Tony are Fast Friends by Nate Ryan – USA Today)

Make no mistake, I think bringing her on board at Stewart-Haas Racing is a great business decision. She’s immensely popular. She garners a great deal of attention no matter what she does or where she goes.

As the Marketing reps say…there’s no such thing as bad publicity. You merely need to look at the response to this years Superbowl GoDaddy commercial to see that concept working in reality. As soon at that supermodel/nerd kiss commercial aired, Twitter lit up with comments. With each and every one of them mentioning “Go Daddy” in their disgust. But that gross commercial, pulled in record business for the Dot.com and that’s what it’s all about. Sales!

So yeah it’s a great business decision having her on the team. But business decisions don’t play out on the track with fans hoping for a win from their favorite driver. Continue reading

Superbowl XLVII – Results

Superbowl TrophyRavens Overwhelm The 49’ers

Last night was the first good Superbowl game in a long time. But it didn’t start out that way. The first half seemed to be all Baltimore. They came to play and they were going to win big. There are enough people talking about the halftime show, so I’ll skip my commentary about that. Then the second half started and the Ravens came out like gang-busters!

Jacoby Jones of the Baltimore Ravens set an NFL postseason record with a 108-yard kickoff return to start the second half. As reported by ESPN:
Jones took the opening kickoff of the second half, a line-drive shot from David Akers, deep in the Ravens’ end zone and ran it the other way for the score, stretching Baltimore’s lead to 28-6.

And then…a few minutes later; the lights went out for San Francisco. Ok..so the lights went out for everyone as the stadium experienced a power outage. Stadium officials reported a feed into the stadium was disrupted, though they didn’t say what that disruption was. Rumor throughout the stadium, as reported by Nascar’s 2012 Sprint Cup Champion Brad Keselowski on Twitter was: Continue reading

NFL Super Bowl XLVII

footballEvil Looks Over The Superbowl

I had a post written up for the conference week but I never posted it, but let’s not discuss that…

This week is the Superbowl and my predictions this week will be right on target. Maybe. Problem is, whenever I make a prediction about a B team, like Baltimore last week, they screw it up. At least I can’t go 0-2 this weekend.

Bottom line here, New England will not beat Atlanta in the Superbowl. Unless they do it out in the parking lot. Honestly, would love to see that.

My take:

I blame the Atlanta and New England for all the things that went wrong last week. Especially New England.
