2012 Week 7 Results – Week 8 Picks

Spring and The Prince Check The Scores

Well last week wasn’t as bad as the week in the Twilight Zone. I improved my average thankfully. A quick review, I’m ecstatic that my Titans won over Buffalo. I didn’t pick them, but I don’t mind loosing that pick! I’m glad that New Orleans look like they woke up and decided “Hey we’re in the regular season now”. And they must have called Green Bay and told them to hurry up and catch the plane to St. Louis. I honestly didn’t think they’d show up. But I’m glad they did, even though we lost that pick too.

All in all, it looks like a lot of teams that should have been winning this year have decided it’s time to wake up and get to work. Maybe the week in the Twilight Zone scared enough of them that they stopped thinking they’re too good to show up against “lesser” teams and decided they actually have to play against these hungry guys and do what they’re paid to do.

So here’s the results from last week. Even though he was picking from gut feeling last week, the kid didn’t do so bad for someone who doesn’t watch football. Continue reading

NFL Week 7

Football In The Twilight Zone
1988 NFL Divisional Playoff Game

Evil Makes his Picks

Well there was a bug in the software, doubt that was why I was making great picks though. Either way I think I fixed it, what with making 6 games and gambling dropping right back to break even.

Usually Twilight Zone week is week 4. Guess Rod Serling was busy that week. Twilight Zone football occurred this year in week 6.

My take on Week 7:

2012 NFL Picks – Week 4

Spring & The Prince Make Their First Picks Of The Season

The Prince and I are a little behind in getting our picks posted for this week. Last week was miserable for me with 7 wins and 9 losses. But the Prince’s method of choosing the bigger animal to win served him well and he ended the week with 11 wins and 5 losses. But this week the regular refs are back so we’ll have to wait and see how he does.

Our picks for this week are:

Tony Stewart Wins His 3rd ESPY

2012 Best Driver ESPY

2012 Best Driver ESPY Winner
Tony Stewart

Tony Stewart is a 3-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. His run for the Cup title in 2011 was epic as he took the lead in 5 of the final 10 races during the Nascar Chase and won. An unprecedented feat that brought the point standings to a tie with rival driver Carl Edwards. Tony’s 5 wins for the year (all of which were gained in the Chase) broke the tie and gave the 2011 Cup Title to Stewart.

Last night in Los Angeles, California he was honored for that stellar effort with the 2012 ESPY for “Best Driver” at the 20th annual ESPY Awards on ESPN. Other drivers in the category were four-time IZOD IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti, F1 champion Sebastian Vettel and NHRA champion Del Worsham. All great drivers and champions in their own series events.

Tony was not present at the awards in Los Angelese, but he did release a statement. “I am thrilled to win the ‘Best Driver’ award after what turned out to be a great NASCAR season last year. I was fortunate enough to be able to take the checkered flag when it mattered most,” said Stewart. “There were some great drivers and great champions in this category, so I cannot thank the NASCAR fans and everyone who voted enough for their unbelievable support.”

Winners for the ESPYs are determined by fan vote and who they want to win in each category. This is the 3rd time our Anthony has won the “Best Driver” honors from the ESPYs. He also won in 2003 and 2006. Continue reading

05/06/2012 – Tony Stewart’s Post Race Interview at Talladega

Bizarre or Vintage Tony? I say:  Welcome Back Smoke!

Tony Stewart - Talladega Interview

Tony Stewart - May 6th Talladega Interview

Tony’s comments immediately after his frustrating finish at Talladega on May 6th have been labeled as funny, sarcastic, bizarre, disrespectful, a mockery and degrading to the sport. Questions have been raised about potential fines by Nascar for violation of Section 12-4-A of the NASCAR rulebook, which covers everything “detrimental to the sport.” If Nascar fined him for this, fans would be all over the sanctioning body raising cain!

Thankfully Nascar announced today they will not be penalizing the People’s Champion for his comments, saying they are not detrimental to the sport.

For those of us who know Tony’s sarcasm, the interview was vintage Stewart and we LOVE it! His sarcasm is part of what we like most about him. And truth be told, his comments were making a point! NASCAR needs to make a few changes before they return to this 2.66-mile track. Continue reading

The White House Honors 2011 NASCAR Champion

2011 Chase Drivers Honored

The White House Welcomes the NASCAR Champion, Tuesday April 17, 2012. The tributes to sports teams are a long-stranding presidential tradition. It’s an opportunity for the President to celebrate excellence and achievement by American sportsmen and women.

Tony Stewart

Tony Stewart of Stewart-Haas Racing

The 30th President of the United States is credited with starting the practice. In October of 1924, Calvin Coolidge welcomed the Washington Senators after winning the American League championship. “The Washington team won because it deserved to win,” said Pres. Coolidge. And the same could be said about our own 2011 Nascar Champion Tony Stewart and the entire #14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 team!

Say what you will about Pres. Obama, he’s still the sitting President of the United States and it’s an honor for any sports champions to be recognized by the White House.

Every Nascar fan agrees that last year was a unique and special Championship series. The level of intensity expressed by Stewart-Haas Racing and in particular the #14 team and our 3-Time Champion Tony Stewart especially, was a story for the ages. It was spectacular. It was heroic. It was an excellent achievement to raise the bar in the last 10 races of the season. And it deserves the same recognition that any NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB champions have received no matter who is in the Oval Office. It’s about the history of recognition and accomplishment by a country who is grateful to have heroes to cheer for on Sundays. Continue reading

The End is Near..Ok..

We are watching the movie “2012”..don’t ask me why. There is a scene where the Pope and his Bishops are on their knees in the Vatican praying as the world is coming to an end. Now I won’t go into the movie implying this gathering is inside Vatican City in Saint Peter’s Basilica and under the dome; with no sign of the altar with Bernini’s baldacchino (the black columned altar); and I won’t point out that these men of faith look up to see Michelangelo’s painting of God touching Adam’s finger which is actually in a totally different building know as the Sistine Chapel….But I digress.

The dome above the Pontiff & his Bishop’s starts to crack, right between the fingers of God and Adam.
As the ceiling begins to fall, our little Prince says:
“Well I guess they can stop praying now”.
