Spring’s 2013-14 Season Week 2 Picks

redskins22013-14 Season Week 1 Results

Well I said my first week picks were never very good and Week 1 proved that to be true. So let me say I don’t mind losing the pick for the Titans since they’re my 2nd favorite team. I was born in Tennessee so it’s awesome when they win. But I was raised outside of DC and I was disappointed my Skins lost. Course they were playing against our little Prince’s favorite team so it wasn’t a total loss. Yeah Eagles.

So here’s my results from the first week of NFL Football. Continue reading

NFL Week 1

Panthers2013-14 Season Week 1

Meh. Sadly all the team fanboys are all still broke from 2008 so there are no good bets to take, nothing but safe sane money in Vegas. There appears to be one scheduled ass whoopin by Indy over Oakland.

My computer is predicting one we’ll be watching, Pittsburgh over Tennessee by 8 points. Hope I’m wrong there.

My take: Continue reading

It’s Time For Football!!

TitansSpring’s Week1 Picks

Well it’s that time of year again. Yeah! Seems like it’s been a very short summer. Probably because around here, it’s either been raining or too cold to get into the lake, it seems like we barely got summer at all. Even today we had weather from “The Day After”. I’m not sure how it can be Sept. 4th, with a high of 83, lo of 59, yet it’s 38 in our neighboring town of Milford. I think the Weather Bug flew into a refrigerated or something.

But that doesn’t have much to do with Football season does it?! I’ve never been good at picking the first games of the season. My picks for Week1 are based on nothing but my gut instinct and how I perceive finished last year. So if you’re using my picks for your football pool (as some have told me they do), I’ve warned you first.  😉 Continue reading

How the Draft Deals with NSA Leaks or That’s TMI

babydragonYou are President Jones. You are here in the Jungle Room (codename for the Oval Office, thanks again President Bill) with the Wizard of Oz (codename for your new Director of National Intelligence) who you have called in to speak with you. You are here because you have been redrafted by the people for another term. This is why you have dedicated this term to getting even with them.

As you watched Brick House (codename for your secretary) pour you and Oz a couple of drinks, you realize that there are only ever two reasons you call someone to speak with you: either to yell at them or to solve a problem caused by someone you want to yell at. This meeting is one of the former. Continue reading

An Anti-Rant About Toro Products

ToroEdgeTrimmer51346Okay time for Toro product anti-rant.

I have a Toro string trimmer. I wanted the instructions for it but apparently they haven’t ever been scanned. Knowing exactly which buried box the manual was in, I decided instead to attempt to find one online.

I searched Toro and the model number on my favorite search engine.

First link up is the page for that trimmer on Toro‘s own website. I expected that would have a bunch of specs and that finding a manual would take a fair bit more searching elsewhere.

I was pleasantly surprised that on the page with the specs is a link to the PDF of the manual. Right there, on the manufacturer’s website.

I promise the next time I need a power garden tool it will be made by Toro if at all possible.

School’s Out For Teacher

Mission Code Name: Final All Hands Debriefing

Teacher Bash - Orig Art by Jeremy Hawkins / Updates by SpringwolfThe Prince left 4th Grade behind today for the last time. Which meant he simply had to see his great 3rd Grade teacher one more time before he left for Early Dismissal. As we were walking back up off the 3rd Grade hall they called the bus riders out and a cheer went up throughout the school as all the kids rushed for the buses. It occurred to me that the teachers were cheering too and I had an epiphany. I know what happens after the last bus pulls away at 1pm.

It goes like this:

As the bus clears the stop sign at the parking lot edge the intercom comes on. It’s the CO, codenamed Principal, “This is the Principal. All hands! Set condition One Sierra Ohio throughout the School. Lock down all ports and rig for ultra party!.”

Teachers rush back into the building to their party stations. Exterior doors are sealed and locked, codes changed for security. Designated crews sweep the halls clearing them, the classrooms and closets to make sure that no kids remain. Continue reading

The Charlie Dean Leffler Discretionary Trust

Jason Leffler

Jason Leffler and Charlie

Jason Leffler did not have life insurance when he died. Todd Braun, current Turner Scott Motorsports owner Harry Scott and Great Clips chief financial officer Steve Overholser have established a fund to help his son.

Of course the scammers are already out trying to capitalize on your generosity and steal money from this sad tragedy and the loving efforts of those who would like to help. If you’re interested in helping, please make sure you are giving money to organizations that are directly connected to the Trust. As of now, there are two ways to donate where you can be ultimately assured your money will go to the Trust.

Donations may be sent to:
The Charlie Dean Leffler Discretionary Trust, c/o SunTrust Bank, 232 Williamson Road, Mooresville, NC 28117.

Set up by the USAC Benevolent Foundation:
Charlie Dean Leffler Education Fund, USAC Benevolent Foundation, c/o Executive Director Bill Marvel, 4910 W. 16th Street Speedway, Speedway, IN 46224. Donations should be earmarked for that program. Reported by Bob Pockrass

Or if you’re looking for an easy online way to contribute:
The Tony Stewart Foundation and Jeff Patterson set up a GoFundMe project Jason Leffler Memorial Fund.
The online fund will help Jason Leffler’s young son by securing his educational needs and insure that he has the same chances that the rest of us enjoy. All the money will be given to the Charlie Dean Leffler Discretionary Trust c/o Suntrust Bank.

Our Prayers For Jason Leffler

Jason Leffler and his son Charlie

Jason Leffler and his son Charlie

Husband, Father, Professional Race Car Driver

Last night around 8:30pm eastern, Twitter users began sharing posts about a terrible crash that occurred in a 410 sprint car race at Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey. The speedway is a 0.625 mile oval dirt track with high banks. During the first heat race of the night, the 2nd placed car hit the wall and flipped several times on the front straightaway. The driver had to be cut from the car and was rushed to the local nearby hospital. That driver was Jason Leffler, one of Nascar’s favorite sons.

Between 8:30 and about 9:15pm tweeters were sending out their prayers that he was ok and wishing his family strength to help him recover. Those with racing timelines, saw an instant flood of get well messages and hopeful tweets. A sign that this wasn’t an ordinary guy. But rather one that was well liked, well thought of and even loved by team mates and those he worked with alike. Not to mention the flood of fans who were rallying to his side, even if it was merely from cyberspace.

My first indication something had happened was from our current Nascar Champion Continue reading
