NFL Week 3

So much for positive territory in gambling. Of course, if my modeling is correct I should be down 3.20 on the dollar. Actually I’m down 4.80, which would be bad, if I were dumb enough to take even odds bets. At least I called the winner for 10 games.

This week the computer actually flagged 3 good bets, been a long time since that happened. The computer says Minnesota will not only cover the spread, but will stomp Detroit. My modeling doesn’t take into account injuries directly and I haven’t looked yet, but did Minnesota lose a star player last week? I didn’t even know they had a star player.

Then the computer says take the under bet in New England vs Buffalo, neither of these teams are going to do all that scoring.

Finally, and this one is suspect, it says Indianapolis will cover the 10 point spread against Pittsburgh by actually beating them. I guess that would depend on the team pulling their heads out of their asses and realizing that Manning was only 1/22 of the team. Granted he was a very good 1/22 piece but no where near the whole team.

Ok after looking at the news, it would appear that the gamblers’ idea of Minnesota is, after getting beat by  a team that far outclasses them, then beat by a mediocre team, they’re done?  I’d put real money on my bet.

2011 NFL Week 3 – Picks

Trying to extend the success of Week 2, here are our picks for week 3. There are a few toss ups this week. I put my pick behind the home team simply because playing at home often gives a team a little more emphasis to win for their fans, they don’t have to travel, and in some of these cases, they’re playing for pride this week. The Prince continues his pick strategy with the animal over the mundane, and the birds winning regardless, with the exception of Arizona. There he picked the bigger bird and hopes the Seahawks can win one at home.

Sunday 12:20- The Munchkin refines his picks for the day and I’m changing my pick for Wash/Dallas.

2011 NFL Week 2 – Results

I had a much better week in Week 2 of the NFL. My Redskins and Titans won. Even though I didn’t pick the Titans I’m happy they won. There were 2 games of the week that showed life’s lessons are about balance, even within the NFL. The Colts showed their success is based on one player and with Peyton at the helm, they can’t win. While the balance of that was seen in Atlanta showing that one man, in this case Vick, can’t win a game all alone. Where were his receivers? There were so many dropped passes that should have been easy catches that the Eagles should’ve / could’ve destroyed the Falcons. That is, if the rest of the team had showed up ready to play. In the end it was a pretty good week for me, 11 games won out of 16. The Prince came in 2nd in our family match up. Daddy, well he didn’t do real well this week.

What happened to Indianapolis last week?  Did they fire the whole team before game time?

2011 NFL Week 2 – Picks

The Prince has a method to picking his teams. The ‘birds’ win over everyone else. And if two ‘birds’ are playing, it’s the bigger bird. So in the Philly v Atlanta match up; well of course the Eagles (who are his favorite team anyway) will beat the little Falcons. I’m simply hoping to do better this week than last.

2011 NFL Week 1 – Results

I had a terrible 1st week, but that’s not unusual. The Prince did very well, considering he’s 8yrs old. The one game that I really cared about was Wash v NYG. My Redskins haven’t beaten the NYG on opening day since 1976. So their win over the Giants, a divisional opponent, and at home; was a GREAT win! The Prince is pleased that he beat Mom in over all pics.

The Best Nascar Invocation – Ever!

July 23, 2011
Nascar Nationwide Series Race In Nashville Tennessee

One, if not the best portion of Saturday’s Nationwide Race in Nashville, came from Pastor Joe Nelms who proves an invocation doesn’t have to be stoic to be effective. Right away fans began tweeting, blogging and posting on social media networks how great the pre-race prayer was. Labeling it the Best Invocation Ever! Within minutes the video was posted on YouTube and sports blogs. SBNation.com‘s Brian Floyd likened the invocation to a scene from Talladega Nights. What some may not know is this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Pastor Joe deliver a pre-race invocation and make it a memorable one. We remember last years invocation which was equally jovial, though perhaps not as memorable as the one delivered tonight!

Heavenly Father we thank you tonight for all your blessings you said in all things give thanks.
So we want to thank you for these mighty machines that you’ve brought before us.
Thank you for the Dodges and the Toyotas.
Thank you for the Fords and most of all we thank you for Roush and Hendrick to give us the power that we see before us tonight.
Thank you for GM Performance Technology and ro7 engines,
Thank you for Sunoco racing fuel, and Goodyear tires and great performance and power to the track.
Lord I want to thank you for my smokin’ hot wife tonight Lisa my two children Ely and Emma. Or as we like to call ’em the little ‘Es’
Lord I pray bless the drivers and crews tonight. May they put on a performance worthy of this track.
