Another Android App Review

Skyvi (Siri for Android)Skyvi Voice (Siri for Android)

If you have an android phone and want Siri to speak to you, there is an option. It’s called Skyvi from BlueTornado. She has a pleasant voice, similar to Siri. She does everything Siri does and she’s pretty funny sometimes too.

As with most voice apps, it works as well as you speak. If you can speak clearly, Skyvi can understand you. If you have a very heavy accent of some sort, she can get a little confused. And that seems to be the biggest issue with Skyvi. Some people have reported problems with the speech recognition.

I have a slight southern accent. I don’t hear it, but people say I have it. I know it comes out when I’m tired. But Skyvi doesn’t seem to have a problem understanding me. On the few occasions where she has had an issue, I can usually speak the command or conversation again with extra clarity and she gets it fine. I’ve noticed she also gets better with use. The more you talk to her or use her, the better she gets at understanding you.

Our version has to put up with me and the Prince. So she has some extra duty to deal with. It would be nice if we could program two or more users with speech recognition. When he uses my phone for homework, it would be nice if she called him by his name and not mine. But that might be a lot to ask from a free app.

She does have a few issues recognizing names. I have a friend named Maura; Skyvi hears “more a”; when she repeats the name she turns the A into a long A, like ace. When I say call Maura; she doesn’t understand who I’m talking about. Since she displays the names when she asks you to connect it to a contact in your address book, it would be nice if you could edit that name and perhaps fix the issue.

The biggest disappointment to the Prince so far (remember he’s 10) is that he can’t say “thank you Skyvi” because she doesn’t seem to recognize her own name. That is kind of disappointing.

My biggest issue is that she overrides all the other phone sounds I have set and have gotten used to. That simply will not do. That one issue caused me to uninstall the app.

You can read all my Android App Reviews, but remember I’m simply a busy mom and retired IT geek. What works for me, may not work for your schedule or life. Take time to read the reviews on the apps before you download. Someone else may have the same phone or device as you and they may have experienced problems that I didn’t on my Galaxy Nexus.

Did You Miss It?

Well here it is.

After Sunday’s Daytona 500, Denny Hamlin; driver of the #11 FedEx Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, expressed his frustration on Twitter. Evidently Denny was upset with his 14th place finish. (2013 Daytona 500 Results @ SBNation).

After the race he tweeted to Brad Keselowski:
@dennyhamlin
keselowski sorry I couldn’t get close to you cuz your genius teammate was too busy messing up the inside line 1 move at a time

A little while later Joey Logano, driver of the #22 Penzoil Ford for Penske Racing; tweeted a response. But if you check Joey’s Twitter page, you may not find that response. Continue reading

2013 Daytona NNS Race Proves It’s Still A Dangerous Sport

Fourteen people were transported from the race track and fourteen were treated in the stands. On Sunday morning, all fans transported to local area hospitals were listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Like many Nascar fans the first thing we want to share are our prayers and thoughts to everyone involved in yesterday’s tragic crash. To those injured, their families and all the fans who were sitting in the crash area. Though not everyone was hurt, the trauma of yesterday’s crash impacted everyone in the stands and even some folks at home who had loved ones at the race.

Let’s not forget the drivers involved as well. They maybe waking up today with bumps and bruises but each one of them has express more concerned for the fans than themselves. Finally we can’t say thank you and give enough accolades to the first responders and to the fans in the stands who jumped into action and began helping those around them. Continue reading

Celebrating Her 1st Historical Sprint Cup Pole Win

Another Glass Ceiling Broken

We want to recognize a day in history and the power of female energy by saying Congratulations to Danica Patrick for becoming the first woman to secure a pole position in the Nascar Sprint Cup Series and the Daytona 500!

Another glass ceiling has been broken! Yes!!

And congratulations to her Boss Tony Stewart for having the courage to hire her for his Stewart-Haas Racing Team!! He really is a pretty smart man.

Tony Stewart took a lot of criticism for bringing Danica into the Sprint Cup Series for 2013. Well let’s face it, he took a lot of criticism for helping her from day 1 to come into Nascar. Some of that criticism even came from me and I love the guy. (Why Nascar Fans Don’t Like Danica). Continue reading

The 2013 Russian Meteor & Nascar

imagesKids Are Funny:
Tiny Asteroid Commentary Through The Eyes Of A Kid

If you hadn’t heard, a large meteor streaked through the sky over Russia on February 15th, 2013. The fireball was seen above Russia’s Urals region Friday morning before it exploded with a flash and boom that shattered glass in buildings and left about 1,000 people hurt, authorities said.

From CNN: Described by NASA as a “tiny asteroid,” the meteor’s explosion created a blast in central Russia equivalent to 300,000 tons of TNT, the space agency’s officials said Friday, adding that the incident was a once-in-100-years event.

We watched the video on the news and of course there were many of those to see. When we heard people were injured, we of course were concerned and we hope everyone will be ok. By the end of the day, the big concern for serious injury was seemingly over, as reported by the news. Thank goodness.

More video had come in and of course we were watching those.

Our little Prince watches the news of the meteor coming down and says:
“Was Montoya visiting Russia?”

Two New Android App Reviews

valentinesLive WallPaper

Each time a new holiday or season comes around I go looking for a new wallpaper to celebrate the event. Today, it’s Valentines Day. After doing a little looking around, I also thought St. Patty’s Day is around the corner.

Being a Celtic Pagan Shaman, it’s a nice time of the year of me and my kind. We don’t celebrate St. Patrick, instead we honor our Celtic heritage, the magik of the little people and our friends the faery folk.

So I found the following two live wallpapers that are worth sharing.

You can check out my continually running Android App Review too.

Sweet Heart – by GO Launcher Dev Team ☆☆☆☆☆
shamrockA Lovely Live Wallpaper – I really like this wall paper. It’s great for Valentines Day with some very beautiful backgrounds. And for any time of the year, you can put your own picture on the background and let the hearts of love fly.

Happy Valentine’s Day

In Love With My Valentine

You are the principle of my moment, without you I can’t decide what goes next.
You are the medium of the plan, without you the plan is just breath in the wind.
Like the song says, there ain’t nothing ’bout you that don’t do something for me.

TV and Streaming Video Schedules

It’s that time of year! The opening week of the Nascar series openers. Seems to have taken so long to get here over the winter months. But now it’s here and we’re gearing up for a great week leading up to the grand race, the Sprint Cup Daytona 500.

This will be Tony Stewart’s 15th attempt to win the big one! It’s one of the few races he hasn’t conquered. He has won at Daytona’s summer race several times. But the season opener has eluded my favorite driver. I’m sending out my prayers, hopes, dreams, crossing my fingers, casting a spell, sending out good energy and whatever it takes to have this year be THE year he finally wins!

It’s the opening for Danica’s full time ride in a Stewart-Haas Racing Chevy for GoDaddy in the Sprint Cup series too. So we surely hope she has a good showing, along with the #39 Team of the QuickenLoans Ryan Newman Chevy as well. Continue reading

The Prince And Racing

mud-fireCommentary By An Almost 10 Year Old

This evening we were watching How It’s Made and we saw a rally where the cars were running through mud puddles. I said, “That’s what they need for those dull mile and a half tracks in Nascar, a big mud puddle in the middle of the back stretch.”

Kid says, “No matter what, Montoya will still be able to set something on fire in it.”

The Queen and I both cracked up.

It’s pretty scary that the Queen actually found a picture of a car in the mud, on fire. Hope that’s not Montoya that they’re pulling out of there.
