A Train Filled Day
Ashland is the nearest town to us and where we go to run errands. Typically we make a stop at the local grocery store, visit the deli and grab something to eat for a picnic. Even on cold winter days like this one, we still take time to visit our favorite train station.
On this day we had a train filled day. Usually we’ll see 2 or 3 trains while we’re having a picnic. But it’s not often we’ll see them at the same time. And it’s especially rare to see two passenger trains at the same time. Right as the 166 was running south bound, we caught a glimpse through the cars of another training running north bound. The engine had already passed us by when the south bound train cleared, so we didn’t catch his number.
We often wait as little as 15 minutes to as much as an hour between trains. But on this busy day, we didn’t have to wait very long to see a freight train coming through town.
We took a walk around the college and when we made it back to the old train station, we spotted another south bound passenger train. Something must have happened farther down the tracks, because this train had switched to the east side tracks.
